Vista Mar Jaco: building guide

The Vista Mar building — you'll also see it written Vistamar — is a residential condominium in the heart of Jaco, on Costa Rica's central Pacific coast. It's a popular choice for travelers who want to walk to the beach, restaurants and shops without giving up the space of a full apartment. Our home here, Vista Mar Condo 4D, is an independently owned three-bedroom unit on the 4th floor that we rent directly to guests.

Where Vista Mar Jaco is

Jaco is the closest major beach town to San José, which is why so many first-time visitors to Costa Rica start here. The Vista Mar building sits in the central part of town, so the long, sandy Jaco Beach is roughly a two-minute walk away. Being central means you can leave the car parked for most of your stay: grocery stores, coffee shops, surf schools, tour offices and the main restaurant strip are all close by.

Jaco itself is about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). The drive follows Route 27 west toward the coast and then a short stretch south on the coastal highway. Our getting here guide covers shuttles, private transfers and rental cars.

What's within walking distance

• Jaco Beach — a wide beach break that's good for surf lessons, long walks and sunsets.
• Restaurants and cafés — from casual sodas serving casados to seafood, sushi and steakhouses.

• Surf shops and tour desks — book lessons, ATV rides, zip lines and fishing trips on foot.

The pool, parking and security

Vista Mar has a community pool for residents and guests, which is a welcome break after a hot afternoon on the beach. The building has on-site parking, so if you rent a car you have a place to leave it, and building security for peace of mind. Please follow the building's posted pool hours and quiet hours — they help keep Vista Mar a relaxed place for everyone who lives and stays here.

Inside Condo 4D

Our unit has three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms and sleeps up to six. You'll find air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, cable TV, a full kitchen and an in-unit washer and dryer, so it works as well for a week-long family trip as it does for a group of friends here to surf.
